Brad Sinclair has worked as a personal injury attorney in Brevard County for many years, and has seen his fair share of slip and fall injuries. While there is a good chance of compensation with a solid slip and fall case, most people would probably like to avoid the chance of a slip and fall injury to begin with, and Brad Sinclair has some wisdom to offer on the subject.

“I’ve been a lifelong advocate for people who have suffered injury by the fault of others,” Sinclair says. “I’ve seen many different cases, and while I’ve been successful helping many get the money they deserve, it’s good to remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

There are several tips that Sinclair suggests to avoid slips and falls. First, try to avoid slippery surfaces where possible. A slippery surface could be something like ice (admittedly not common in Florida), but could also be wetness on a tile floor that lacks non-skid traction. Also, make sure to keep feet steady and underneath the body as much as possible to help maintain center of gravity. Be very careful on stairs.

Another way Sinclair advocates that individuals avoid slips and falls is by installing railings along the walls of areas that are known to be slippery. In the case of seniors, railings in bathtubs are an excellent idea. For individuals that must travel, try to patronize hotels and motels that cater to these needs.

“In terms of what you can do in your own home, make sure that you clean up spills as soon as possible, and stay off of freshly mopped floors,” Sinclair advises. “These are small, proactive things that can be done to protect individuals and families and help avoid potential pain and trauma which can come from a slip and fall accident.”
