Tree falls onto home in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) – BREAKING NEWS: A tree has fallen on top of a home in the area of Silver Star Road and Hiawassee Road in Orlando. Details are slim at this time, and we don’t have any word on injuries, but we can tell you that Orange County fire along with other law enforcement officials are on scene. A student at a Brevard County elementary school has been accused of passing out prescription and over-the-counter pills, school officials said.
A student reported to the principal at Columbia Elementary School on April 29 that a third-grade student was passing out pills after school on the previous day.
Most of the pills were thrown away when passed to the students, and there were no injuries as a result of the incident, according to a letter sent to parents by Pamela Blount, the school’s principal.
Disciplinary actions were taken, officials said…

OCALA, Fla. – The funeral arrangements for a Florida Highway Patrol trooper killed in an accident on I-75 Saturday has been released. Trooper Chelsea Richard was killed Saturday afternoon, along with a tow truck driver when a truck lost control, went off the road and struck them, along with a third person on I-75.Investigators with FHP said all of the victims were standing there because before the fatal accident, there was another accident in that same spot and Trooper Richard was investigating it. Brevard County residents are trying to get the government to pave a road that’s been nothing but dirt for more than a decade.
“We’ve had accidents upon accidents out here, people going into the ditch. We had someone killed,” said Mary Benell, who lives on Satellite Boulevard off State Road 520 in Canaveral Groves.
That someone was a 30-year-old woman who, according to FHP, rolled her SUV into a ditch back on April 18.
She lost control on Satellite Boulevard around midnight. A small memorial marks the spot where she died.
Two days later another rollover crash happened just yards away…

Fla. AG finds way to pay for prescription database

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is keeping the state’s prescription drug database up and running after state legislators decided against funding it. The Florida Legislature did not set aside any money for the nearly three year old program during the annual session that ended Friday.Bondi announced Monday that she would use nearly $2 million from a previous legal settlement with Caremark to operate the database.
