The roar of radial piston engines is filling the air in Titusville, as one of America’s favorite air shows gets underway.
The TICO Warbird Air Show features just about every kind of plane, but the centerpiece planes are the warbirds from World War II.
“The Warbirds are some of the finest restorations in the world and some of the best pilots,” said Valiant Air Commander Ron Davis.
The show will include the A4 Skyraider, a plane so good it was still flying in Vietnam, the Helldiver, the F4U Corsair (the Japanese called it Whistling Death) and the B-25 Mitchell.
“Many people just don’t believe these type of airplanes fly any longer. The biggest question we have is, ‘How did it get here?’ Well, it flew here,” said restorationist Tom Reilly.
Reilly said it’s important to restore the planes because some people don’t know WWII existed.
“They don’t teach it any longer,” he said.
The air show features amazing aerial stunts and maneuvers, but its deeper purpose is to honor our fast-disappearing heroes.
The show continues Saturday and Sunday at Space Coast Regional Airport.
