Officials: Operation Ceasefire led to 130 gun arrests over 10 years

Brevard County officials announced 130 arrests in 10 years as part of Operation Ceasefire, a task force that sends agents after the guns on our streets.

“These guys put on their guns like you and I put on our pants,” said Brevard State Attorney Phil Archer. “We target the bad guys; target the gang members.”

Law enforcement leaders say the task force has brought together agents from many local cities and the federal government; that enables them to track suspects from city to city and identify the most dangerous ones, arresting them and taking away their guns.

Investigators arrested one man, Lawrence Alvarado, after discovering a video of him in a car driving down the streets of Cocoa, handling his gun and showing it off – even rapping about it.

“I get emotional, I hug my Glock.  I get emotional, I hug my Glock,” Alvarado said in the video.

As a convicted felon, it is illegal for Alvarado to handle guns. He was arrested and sentenced to 18 years in prison after the video; his arrest led to two additional arrests of murder suspects.
