Man suspected of robbing tanning salon shot and killed by police officers

A man thought to be a suspect in the armed robbery of a tanning salon was shot by officers from both South Daytona and Daytona Beach Police Departments on Tuesday.

The officers were responding to a silent hold-up alarm at the Hot Tans tanning salon, at 927 Beville Road.

Shortly before 4 p.m., officers arrived at the scene, where found the front door to the business was locked.  Two officers, one from each agency, went to the back of the business, while additional officers remained in the front.

A woman ran out the front door, followed by a man who was wielding a gun. When the man spotted the officers, he ran to the back of the business and exited through the rear door.  At that time both officers shot the man. 

The man, who has not yet been identified, was transported to Halifax Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The names of the two officers involved in the shooting have not been released.  The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.
