The student, who has asked to be identified by his performing name, Noel, was suspended for 10 days and accused of causing a “campus disturbance” by administrators at Cocoa High School, who learned of his film role for the adult site SeanCody.com after other students bullied him over it. The suspension led to the student’s “automatic failure” in his classes, stopping him from graduating in June.
However, a member of the online community Reddit identifying himself as a relative of another Cocoa High student shared Noel’s story with the “gaybros” board.
“Several students planned to protest by wearing support shirts, making posters, and skipping a class. The principle [sic] is threatening to automatically expel any student who joins in,” the person wrote.
The Gaily Grind reported that the student confirmed his suspension on Facebook, writing, “Coming back to Cocoa isn’t the best for me but bringing justice to the disciplinary system and discrimination of the administration has not slipped my mind either.”
The Grind also confirmed that several students skipped their 7th period class on Friday in support of Noel. Other supporters have denounced the school’s decision, arguing that since he is of legal age, the school had no right to sanction him for participating in a legally-made adult film.
“What if he smokes when he’s away school? Would he be suspended for that too?” one person wrote on the school’s Facebook page. “The principal has No right to do this. Get the ACLU involved. Shame on the principal. Unless the guy films porn in your school, get out of his sex life and his career.”
