COCOA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) – Cocoa Beach Police say hundreds of Easter Sunrise Service attendees illegally parked cars along a fourteen-block stretch of Ocean Beach Boulevard Sunday morning. In all, eighteen parking tickets were pinned to cars in clearly marked “no parking zones” on the median and along residential side streets. But police say they could have easily cited three hundred.”I think it’s a kind of warning shot across the bow,” says Cocoa Beach city commissioner Skip Williams.

Two years ago, several million taxpayer dollars were spent building and beautifying this beach side median. The improvements included lush landscaping and an irrigation system.

“And there’s damage that can be done to that by the same people who paid for it,” Williams said.

Manny Shaw was one of those sunrise service attendees who was ticketed. He says he’s going to fight the $30 citation, because there was a parking enforcement officer and a police officer present at the time the attendees were parking.

“They should have been enforcing the rule, which is what it says on their car, not waiting to let the person leave, so they could then ticket them,” said Shaw.
