PALM BAY, Fla. —A street cop who likes to hide out in the dark to catch criminals has made another capture.
Officer Yousef Hafza said he likes to work on his paperwork while sitting in his car near the types of business that often get hit. That’s exactly what he was doing when two men smashed a store window at a Radio Shack in Palm Bay and started taking TVs and cellphones.
“Instead of parking somewhere where I can’t see them, I like to see them but stay out of sight. So that way I can get both things done: my work and catching bad guys,” he said.
The alarm at the store went off and Hafza went after the men on foot.
“He kept making turns to try to figure out where he was going, but the (getaway) vehicle just left him,” he said.
Hafza gave chase for a while until he caught one of the suspects. The other got away and left his partner behind.
Some of the stolen merchandise was recovered.
It’s the second successful foot chase for Hafza in the last few months.
