Nerds unite at festival in Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY — In a place known for launching a lot of real-life space expeditions, it was all about science fiction on Saturday weekend in Brevard County.
From a Star Wars rancor to Doctor Who collectibles, thousands geeked out at the inaugural Space Coast Nerd Fest in Melbourne.
Those who showed up said it’s fitting the Space Coast hosted its own Nerd Fest.
Plenty of vendors were also set up outside, including the Palm Bay High School robotics team and demonstrations from the Knights of Brevard.
Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
