Motorist crashes into Merritt Island Hallmark store

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say an 80-year-old woman was pulling into a parking space at a Merritt Island Hallmark store, when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake.

“I was working next door, and that was the loudest sound ever,” said an employee at a neighboring UPS store.  “I was so scared.”

FHP says JoAnne Youngblood, of Rockledge, drove her 4-door Hyundai into the front of the store in the Publix Shopping Center at the corner of S. Courtenay Parkway and State Road 520.

“I didn’t see it! I didn’t know it. I’ve never been in a situation like this,” said Youngblood.   “I’m usually so careful.”

Youngblood was cited for reckless driving and FHP will recommend she be re-examined for her driver’s license.
