While jury selection began Monday in the murder trial of a Warlocks Motorcycle Club member, deputies said another Warlocks member was shot.
David Maloney is claiming self-defense in the shooting that killed three people at a motorcycle charity event in Winter Springs in 2012. Police said an altercation broke out before the ride and David Jakiela, Harold Liddle and Peter Schlette were killed.
Before the trial started Monday, a defense witness, Larry Spohn, was shot in his arm while riding his motorcycle on Interstate 95 on Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

“I think it is readily apparent the Warlocks are behind it,” said Michael LaFay, Maloney’s defense attorney. “It has no place and it is just a continual pattern of intimidation.”
Witnesses told deputies a while Chrysler followed the three men on motorcycles for three to five miles before moving into the right lane when the group neared Fiske Boulevard, according to the report.
The witnesses told deputies they saw the driver of the car hold a semi-automatic weapon out the window and shoot Spohn, according to the report.
Deputies said John Charles Haskell, a documented Warlocks member, was identified as the shooter. Haskell was charged with attempted murder in the shooting, court records show.
Spohn told deputies he rides with the Warlocks in Volusia County and was a witness to a shooting involving the Warlocks is Brevard County, according to the report.
