The girl, who is in high school, had just stepped off the bus and was walking to her house when she noticed a man following her.

Police said Joseph Thompson was driving near the intersection of San Fillipo Drive and Wichita Boulevard when he started honking his horn and waving at a 15-year-old girl.

The girl kept walking and Thompson allegedly got out of his car and ran after the teen. When he caught up to her, police said Thompson asked her how school was while “looking around in a weird way to see if anyone was around.”

According to officials, the girl cut through a neighbor’s yard to escape Thompson, and when she made it home she told her brother and mother what happened. Both family members called police.

“He started following her, honking the horn at her and then he got out of the car and stared walking,” the victim’s brother told a 911 dispatcher. “And then she called me crying saying there was a guy following her. I just told her to run straight to the house and call me when she gets inside.”

“My daughter is hysterical, calling me from home while I’m at work,” the teen’s mother said on a 911 call. “She is very nervous. She hears somebody still outside.”

Police said the teen could see Thompson “pacing in front of her house” before eventually leaving the scene.

Thompson was picked up by law enforcement officials not far from the girl’s house, officials said. Police said Thompson had a condom, marijuana and a glass pipe on him.

Police said they were very concerned about Thompson’s intentions and the potential behavior if he’s released from jail.

A judge ordered Thompson to wear a GPS monitoring device, if he is able to make his $11,000 bond.
