Orlando Police: Man steals car; slams into 2 patrol cars and officer

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) –

Orlando Police are actively searching for a man who crashed into two patrol cars and then struck a patrol officer late Monday night.

Orlando Police Detectives say it all happened just before 10:00pm after patrol officers stopped a Black, Ford Pick-up truck in the parking lot of a ABC Liquor Store on South Orange Avenue.   Police say the stop was made after officers were able to determine the vehicle was stolen.

Police say there were three people inside the vehicle when they pulled over the pick-up truck.   Investigators say as they were arresting the driver, 58 year-old Kenneth Richardson, a man sitting in the passenger seat hoped into the drivers seat of the pick-up truck.  Authorities say he then crashed the stolen vehicle into the patrol car several times.

Police say he then quickly sped off, hitting two additional cars, then striking a K-9 officer.

Minutes later, OPD officers were able to locate the stolen car which they say was abandoned by the suspect, approximately three blocks away on the 1000 block of 19th Street.

Investigators describe the suspect as a White Man, between 30-40 years of age, with Dark Brown/Black hair, 5’7 – 5’8″, 170 pounds.

The officer that was hit by the stolen car was not injured.  In fact, a Police Lieutenant tells Fox 35 he assisted with the search.

As for Kenneth Richardson, he was booked into the Orange County Jail just after 3am on Tuesday morning.

He will continue to be questioned by police and is currently facing charges of driving with a suspended license.

Orlando Police say more charges may be pending and the investigation is active and ongoing.
