BREVARD COUNTY — If you see and smell smoke in the River Lakes Conservation area in Brevard County it’s from a controlled burn.
The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 5,000-acre prescribed burn Friday to reduce fuel reduction in the area.

Crews ignited the fire from the air which the District said allows staff to ignite fires more quickly, which results in faster burnout and less lingering smoke.
Before conducting a burn, the District took steps to ensure that wind and other weather conditions are correct for controlling the fire and minimizing the impacts of smoke to residents and traffic. http://www.mynews13.com/content/news/cfnews13/news/article.html/content/news/articles/cfn/2014/3/14/_5_000_acre_prescrib.html
