Space Coast Report: Sight-Casting for Tripletail at Port Canaveral

He’s sight-casting for tripletail up to 20 inches at Port Canaveral.
Here’s his report:
“To begin with, a few nice sea trout have been caught along the flats. This is especially true during the mid morning hours of the day. Live shrimp rigged under a popping cork or small surface lures has worked well for these tasty fish. Many of these trout have been caught along the eastern shorelines of the Banana River in 2 to 4 feet of water. When targeting them, anglers will want to concentrate their efforts around sandy pot holes as well as residential canals. Several of these fish have had an average length of 16 inches.
In addition, a few black drum have been caught near mangrove shorelines with steep drop offs as well as residential canals with steep drop offs in the Banana River. Fresh cut mullet or lady fish has worked well when fished on the bottom. This is especially true during low light conditions. Many of these drum have weighed 2 to 4 pounds with the largest weighing in at 6 pounds.
At Port Canaveral, some nice sized tripletail have been caught during mid day. Live shrimp rigged on small jigs has worked well for this tasty fish. Sight casting to them has been the best way to target them during calm conditions. This is especially true when fished near structure such as floating debris. Some of these fish have measured up to 20 inches in length.”
