Cocoa police looking for man who approached teen at bus stop

Police in Brevard County will be keeping a close eye on a Cocoa bus stop where a teenage girl was followed and propositioned by a man.

It happened Wednesday morning at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Barbara Jenkins Street.

Police said the girl was not harmed and they have put extra patrols in the area to try and catch the man.

Cocoa Police said the 15-year-old girl was walking to her school bus stop Wednesday morning when a man inside a vehicle approached her and told her she was arousing him and offered her money to let him look at her.

Investigators said a moment later the school bus arrived and she got on the bus and told school leaders what happened.

Police have been checking the area but so far have not been able to find the man.

“He did not get out of the car. He did not put hands on her. We don’t know what his intention was. We certainly hope that he sees this news report and knows that we’re looking for him and, you know, he needs to leave our kids alone,” said Officer Barbara Matthews from the Cocoa Police Department.

Police said the girl could only give a vague description of the man, but told police he was driving a white car, possibly a Lexus, with a gold stripe.

Workers in this area, including parks and recreation employees have been told to keep an eye out, to help catch the man and keep this area safe.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cocoa Police at (321) 639-7620.
